Yossi Benayoun was able to take positives from Arsenal's Carling Cup defeat to Manchester City, having been impressed by the exploits of Emmanuel Frimpong and Francis Coquelin.
The young duo featured in the centre of midfield for the Gunners on Tuesday night, but were unable to prevent a 1-0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium.
Frimpong and Coquelin did, however, impress up against the experienced duo of Nigel de Jong and Owen Hargreaves, and controlled the middle of the park for large periods.
And Benayoun, who was captain for the evening against City, was excited by what he saw from the latest players off the famed Gunners production line.
“Frimpong played with a lot of confidence and spirit,” Benayoun told Arsenal Player.
“Also, he had a partner like Francis [Coquelin] in midfield who was very good for him and they controlled it.
“Manchester City have a lot of quality players and they did a great job. In the end we were unlucky."
Meanwhile, City have been drawn against Liverpool in the last four of the Carling Cup, with the first leg of the tie due to take place in early January.
