Manchester City are targeting a move for Manchester United defensive target Jordi Alba, according to the Mirror.

The Valencia defender has consistently been linked with moves away from the La Liga side.

United have been heavily linked with the Spanish full-back, however, City are expected to compete for his signature.

Despite the summer signing of Gael Clichy, Mancini is hoping to bring in a new defensive option to allow him to continue to rotate his full-backs to good effect.

United meanwhile are looking for a replacement for Patrice Evra, 30.

The French full-back has played a key role in the United side that has reached three European Cup finals in four years.

The Old Trafford club have already lost out on the race for David Silva to City, and will be keen to gain a value victory over their near neighbours in the transfer market.
