Stephen Appiah is on the verge of joining Blackburn after impressing on trial according to his spokesperson.
The Ghanaian midfielder, who has had spells with a host of European clubs including Udinese, Juventus and Fenerbache has been without a club since leaving Cesena in the summer because of a recurring knee injury.
He had a trial at Spurs in 2009 but injury concerns meant that he did not earn a permanent deal.
The knee problem has dogged him throughout his career but GHANAsoccernet.com have been told by a friend of Appiah's: "He impressed and was told by Blackburn boss Steven Kean that he has to work on his fitness level.
"He has been working at the Presby Boy Senior High School Park in Legon to step up his fitness before joining the club."
Kean will hope that Appiah, a former captain of his country, will offer another option in the centre of the park to help the Ewood Park club in their relegation fight.
