Liverpool defender target opens English transfer door

Liverpool summer transfer target Aly Cissokho has admitted his love for English football.

The French international full-back was heavily linked with a move away from Lyon in the summer, with a handful of Barclays Premier League clubs thought to be tracking the 24-year-old.

And, whilst Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish moved for Jose Enrique in August, Cissokho could yet provide the Spaniard with some competition at Anfield.

"I liked to play in Portugal," said the former Porto defender.

"I want a different experience abroad. I love English football. I watch it all the time."

Were the player to leave his current Ligue 1 home, he admits that Champions League football could hold the key, something Liverpool are aspiring too as they chase a top four finish.

"I want to play lots of games including in the Champions League."

Liverpool have shown over the last 12 months that they are not afraid to spend big in the transfer market, bringing Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez for a fee of over £55 million last January, and spending big again on a handful of players in the summer.

The Scottish boss has admitted that he remains under pressure from Liverpool owners FSG to make ore signings however, and Cissokho could be one of the players targeted at the start of 2012.
