Christian Pulisic would only be allowed to leave Chelsea in January if he began to agitate for a move, according to journalist Paul Brown.
The USA international has been linked away from Stamford Bridge, but Brown has played down the likelihood of a mid-season exit.

It's been yet another stop-start season for the former Dortmund star, who has already endured two separate spells on the sidelines so far this term due to an injury and coronavirus.
Accordingly, Premier League minutes have been pretty hard to come by, leading to some speculation that Pulisic could leave Stamford Bridge in the near future.
El Nacional have linked the forward with Liverpool and Barcelona, while claiming Pulisic's agent has held discussions with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.
A separate report from the same publication even claimed manager Thomas Tuchel is ready to sell, whereas Sport have alleged that Pulisic 'knows that he must leave London' to get more game-time.
Brown, however, believes the £58m signing will only depart Stamford Bridge next month if he agitates for a move.
What has Paul Brown said about Christian Pulisic?
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Brown insisted there isn't any noise from Pulisic's camp suggesting that he's pushing for a move right now.
He told GMS: "[An exit would only happen] if Pulisic were suddenly to turn around and start agitating for a move and decide 'I've clearly got no chance here, the manager doesn't like me, I should be playing and I'm not'. I don't hear that at the moment from his camp."
Should Chelsea cash-in on Pulisic?
It's difficult to get a strong reading on Pulisic's trajectory at this stage of his career.
On the one hand, for a 23-year-old he's already achieved an incredible amount. He's picked up 42 international caps, he's featured in Bundesliga title races and he's won the Champions League.
On the other, he's suffered a whole host of injury problems and had basically lost his place in the team at Dortmund - albeit in part due to injuries - before moving to Chelsea, where he's now at best a rotation option alongside the likes of Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech and Calum Hudson-Odoi.
There's every chance Pulisic develops into the world-beating talent he seemed destined to become when he first debuted for Dortmund as a teenage prodigy.
But perhaps that should be someone else's gamble to take rather than Chelsea's. With teams like Liverpool and Barcelona reportedly interested, the Blues could move that risk onto a rival club while picking up a fee.
