Manchester City v Arsenal: Classic Encounters

Manchester City 4-2 Arsenal

Barclays Premier League,

12th September, 2009

A game remembered best for the brilliance and stupidity of Emmanuel Adebayor. The former Gunner had a point to prove for his new employers, and proceeded to score the third in a 4-2 victory, run the length of the pitch and celebrate in-front of the traveling Arsenal fans.

Micah Richards had opened the scoring before Robin Van Persie equalised. Craig Bellamy, Adebayor and Shaun Wright-Phillips wrapped up the win before Tomas Rosicky grabbed a late consolation. Oh, and Adebayor could have been sent-off for kicking Van Persie in the head.

An early test of the Gunners' invincible credentials, with a David Seaman error saving their blushes at Eastlands.

Manchester City's side gave a glimpse of what could be possible in the future as Robinho and Stephen Ireland ran the show.

The Irishman opened the scoring before the Brazilian maverick scored a sublime chip past Manuel Almunia. The Gunners fifth defeat of the season was assured when an unknown Daniel Sturridge slotted home from the penalty spot in injury-time.

And last time out at the Etihad Stadium.....

Dedryk Boyata's fifth minute red card proved the key as the Gunners showed they were still one of the teams to beat in England.

Samir Nasri, now of City, opened the scoring on 20 minutes after some smart link-up play with Cesc Fabregas. The Spaniard missed a penalty in the first period before Alex Song doubled the advantage on 66 minutes, and Nicklas Bendtner put the icing on the cake on 88 minutes.
