Cech: We can’t lose momentum

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has conceded that the draw with Wigan has put even more pressure on his side going into the Tottenham game.

Three victories in a row had meant Andre Villas-Boas’ side were being considered as title challengers.

The point at Wigan has deflated the Stamford Bridge side and momentum built up by defeating leaders Manchester City has slowed somewhat.

“It's not an ideal point because we wanted to have three, and we can consider it as two points lost, but we have another game at Spurs and we need to get those points ideally back,” said Cech

“Unfortunately when we are behind and chasing, any lost points puts you under more pressure to win every game.

“They have their game in hand, they are still in the top four and they are a direct opponent for the title and for the Champions League. This makes the game even more exciting.”

The fixture on Thursday is being billed as a key clash for both sides’ title hopes and a defeat for Villas-Boas or Harry Redknapp will dent confidence greatly.

Spurs are still in a superior position with a game in hand but a defeat would see Chelsea leapfrog them into third and could prove to be a heavy psychological blow.

The same goes for Chelsea but Cech is confident his side can bounce back if they suffer disappointment against Spurs.

“We will see at the end of the season,” added the Czech Republic international.

“You can lose some points at the start and catch up, and sometimes you have a great start then you have a run with some games when you keep dropping points, so let's see.”

“We were on a bad run, we turned it round, and we have to keep going.”
