Fulham v Manchester United

Barclays Premier League

Craven Cottage

Wednesday, December 21. Kick-off: 2000

Bobby Zamora is back for Fulham after missing the weekend win over Bolton.

However, midfield duo Simon Davies and Steve Sidwell, defender Zdenek Grygera and No.1 Mark Schwarzer are still missing for Martin Jol.

Javier Hernandez could be included by Sir Alex Ferguson following a quicker recovery from injury than initially expected.

United, though, are still depleted in midfield with Anderson, Tom Cleverley and Darren Fletcher all missing. Rafael Da Silva, Michael Owen and Nemanja Vidic are also absentees.

Jol has Ferguson respect

Sir Alex Ferguson has paid tribute to the managerial abilities of Martin Jol ahead of Manchester United's clash with Fulham on Wednesday night.

Jol is in his first season at the Craven Cottage helm and welcomes the Barclays Premier League champions to west London hoping to lead Fulham into the top half of the table.

The Dutchman, however, could currently be plying his trade at Old Trafford, had things transpired differently during the 2003/04 season.

Jol will go head-to-head with Ferguson tonight but, says Ferguson, he once tried to recruit the former Tottenham boss as his assistant.

"I knew Martin and actually spoke to him when Carlos Queiroz left the club," Ferguson told MUTV's Matchday Live programme.

"I spoke to him about joining us as assistant manager. Whilst I was talking with him, I had a phone-call from Carlos and realised he wasn't happy at Real Madrid so I made moves to bring him back at the end of that season.

"It was unfortunate for Martin but it never stopped his career progressing. He did very well as a coach in Holland and then came to Tottenham.

"I think he's a terrific manager and his record is good. He's had great experience gathered at Hamburg and Ajax."
