Mata makes title omission

Juan Mata admits he and his Chelsea teammates have been left disappointed by yesterday's Boxing Day draw with west London rivals Fulham at Stamford Bridge.

After a tightly contested first-half, the Blues broke the deadlock when the Spanish playmaker netted his fifth goal of the season just two minutes after the interval, but Andre Villas-Boas' side were pulled back by a Clint Dempsey strike and the game finished 1-1.

"My goal wasn't enough and we are very disappointed with the point because we needed three points," said Mata. "We had so many chances to score.

"Particularly in the last 15 minutes - with Fernando [Torres], with Didier [Drogba] and with Raul [Meireles], but it wasn't enough. For sure, their goalkeeper made some very good saves so congratulations to him.

"We tried to move the ball quickly but it is difficult when the other team has a lot of players behind the ball and it was difficult for us to find the spaces."

Chelsea now face the prospect of dropping into fifth place in the Barclays Premier League table if Arsenal beat Wolves at the Emirates Stadium this afternoon, and Mata concedes that the club's title aspirations have suffered another setback following yesterday's result.

"It is going to be very difficult because there are lot of teams and they are having very good seasons like Arsenal, like Tottenham, like Liverpool so we have to fight," he added.

"Our next game is another that we have to win but Aston Villa is a very good team. We wanted to achieve the six points in our two home games but against Fulham we got one, and we hope to win three points against Aston Villa."
