Arsenal are reportedly considering a somewhat surprising January bid for Sunderland winger Kieran Richardson.
The 27-year-old has made 18 appearances for the Black Cats in the Barclays Premier League this season, but failed to feature during the weekend victory over Manchester City due to a virus.
But, according to The Mirror, Richardson is considering his future at the Stadium of Light, and Arsenal are monitoring his situation.
The former Manchester United starlet's ability to play at full-back as well as on the wing is likely to appeal to Arsene Wenger, with the Arsenal boss desperately short of options at the back.
The Gunners are without Thomas Vermaelen, Bacary Sagna, Andre Santos and Carl Jenkinson due to injury, while Johan Djourou is now suspended after being sent off in Monday's loss to Fulham.
Thus, Wenger will reinforce during the transfer window, and Richardson could seemingly move to the Emirates Stadium.
Richardson signed for Sunderland from Manchester United in 2007, having spent five years under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.
