Liverpool's Brazilian target decides on future

Brazilian teenager Lucas says he will stay with Sao Paulo, despite reported interest in his signature from Liverpool.

The 19-year-old forward is regarded as one of the finest young prospects currently operating outside of Europe and has been frequently been linked with move away from the Estádio do Morumbi.

Last week, Lucas' agent Wagner Ribeiro claimed he had received an offer for his client from Liverpool, but the Brazil international is ready to reject a move to Anfield for the time being.

"I expect a better 2012 for myself and the club," he said. "Our squad is strong, and with more signings we will get even better.

"I will stay at Sao Paulo. You will see a more motivated Lucas who has a desire to succeed. We lacked a title in 2011 and that is objective for the New Year."

It would appear, then, that Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish will have to turn his attentions elsewhere in the pursuit of January reinforcements.
