Borussia Dortmund striker Lucas Barrios is a January target for Chelsea according to German newspaper Bild.

The 27-year-old Paraguayan international has fallen out of favour at the Westfalenstadion, struggling to get back into the Dortmund side after picking up an injury at the Copa America last summer.

Barrios, who was top goalscorer for the reigning Bundesliga champions in each of the last two seasons, has expressed his unhappiness at the current situation.

Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas has been alerted to Barrios' potential availability as he looks to bolster his attacking options following the sale of Nicolas Anelka to China.

But Chelsea could face competition for the South American's signature from the likes of big-spending La Liga side Malaga, and Barclays Premier League rivals Aston Villa, who are also believed to be considering an offer.

However, Dortmund general manager Michael Zorc said that despite reported interest from Chelsea, Aston Villa and Malaga, the club are hoping to keep hold of the striker.

"We are to talk to Lucas Barrios in the next few days," he told Bild. "We have not received any enquiries for him.

"He is also under contract with our club beyond the end of the season. We did not want to sell him."
