Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Barcelona midfielder Isaac Cuenca, with a scouting mission to the Camp Nou reports talKSPORT.
The 20-year-old winger recently spoke of his desire to remain in Spain and continue his development under the stewardship of Pep Guardiola.
However, Cuenca is out of contract in June, and as negotiations over a new deal continue to stall, the youngster is free to speak to non-Spanish clubs in January.
Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson has identified Cuenca as a player who could improve his midfield ranks at Old Trafford, and according to Spanish newspaper Sport, sent brother and Manchester United chief scout Martin Ferguson to run the rule over him.
Ferguson was at the Camp Nou on Wednesday to see Barca run out 4-0 winners over Osasuna in the Copa del Rey - a match that Cesc Fabregas stole the show with two goals in the opening 20 minutes.
However, it is believed that Cuenca also impressed in an attacking role alongside Fabregas and Pedro Rodriguez, and Manchester United are now weighing up a bid to bring him to the Barclays Premier League.
