Redknapp to ring changes for Cheltenham

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has admitted he will rest a host of first team players for his side’s third round tie against Cheltenham on Staurday.

Spurs find themselves in third position in the Premier League, just three points from 2nd placed Manchester United and six points from league leaders Manchester City with a game in hand over both sides after the hectic festive period.

The amount of games played over Christmas and New Year looked to be catching up with Spurs as both Sandro and William Gallas limped off in the 1-0 win over West Brom last weekend, while Scott Parker remains sidelined with a knee complaint.

Redknapp believes he has to use the full extent of his squad for the tie in order to not harm his side’s title challenge, but says he is taking the threat of their opponents seriously.

“We will change it around,” said Redknapp. “That’s no disrespect to Cheltenham, but we’ve played the same players (over Christmas and New Year) and we can’t keep playing them. We need to use the squad.”

He added: “But we will still field a team of international players, we want to make sure we get through.”

There was some good news for Redknapp as Michael Dawson looks set to make his return to action following a long lay off through injury, with the former Portsmouth manager describing his impending return as “great”.
