Arsenal will make an £8million bid for FC Cologne striker Lukas Podolski in the summer now that Thierry Henry has filled the gap up front short term with his loan move from New York Red Bull report the Mail on Sunday.
The 26-year-old German international has scored 14 goals in 16 games in the Bundesliga this season, and hopes to be a key part of the national team at Euro 2012.
Cologne managing director Claus Horstmann claimed he was 'optimistic' that Podolski would sign a new contract, but with just one year left on his deal come June, twinned with his ambition to play in the Barclays Premier League, Arsenal are confident they can land their man.
Gunners legend Henry will make his comeback at the Emirates Stadium against Leeds United in the club's FA Cup third round clash on Monday, but Arsene Wenger remains determined to add to his forward line.
The 34-year-old represents a short-term solution for Wenger, acting as cover for Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh who will be away this month on African Cup of Nations duty.
After signing a two-month loan deal, Henry will return to the MLS in February, allowing Arsenal to renew their interest and free up room on their wage bill to sign Podolski at the end of the 2011-12 campaign.
