Arsenal have been told they can sign Lyon defender Aly Cissokho for £8million reports the Daily Mail.

The 24-year-old French international has long been linked with a move to north London as his cash-strapped employers are looking to sell.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is in the market for defensive reinforcements following injuries to Kieran Gibbs, Andre Santos, Carl Jenkinson and Bacary Sagna - leaving Arsenal short on full-back options.

Wenger has expressed his desire to bring a loan signing in that area to the Emirates Stadium this month, but could now be swayed by the availability of Cissokho.

"At the moment nothing, we don't have a concrete case but we don't rule it out," he was quoted as saying at the weekend. "A loan defender is the likely scenario.

"I am expecting a quiet market. Europe is depressed and there is not a lot of money available, only some clubs who have exceptional resources.

"Let's say that clubs who are not linked with the economic environment at the moment can buy."

Cissokho is keen on a move to England and the former Porto defender, who cost Lyon £12.9million back in 2009, has also attracted interest from Newcastle United.

However, the Frenchman would likely prefer a move to Arsenal, and his representatives are due to hold talks with Lyon about securing a move.
