Football Daily: January 11

Manchester City welcome Liverpool tonight in the first leg of their semi-final clash, with the Reds looking to avenge last week's 3-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium.

Vincent Kompany is suspended for tonight's game after losing his appeal against a red card received during last Sunday's FA Cup clash with United.

Stefan Savic is likely to fill in, while Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli return to the squad after injury. However, David Silva is a doubt, having picked up a knock.

Luis Suarez serves the third game of his eight match ban for Liverpool, with towering striker Andy Carroll hoping to impress in the Uruguyan's absence.

Elsewhere tonight, Tottenham can go level with Manchester United in second place in the league if they can overcome Everton at White Hart Lane.

Toffees manager David Moyes recognised that Spurs are title contenders, lamenting the fact that both sides were on level terms just a few years back.

WIlliam Gallas, Ledley King and Sandro have all been ruled out for Spurs. With Scott Parker is also doubtful, Jake Livermore could start in midfield.
