Chelsea look to have stepped up their interest in River Plate starlet Lucas Ocampos, reports The Daily Mail.

The striker has been branded the ‘new Cristiano Ronaldo’ and the Stamford Bridge club are reportedly ready to make an £8 million bid.

Ocampos has also attracted interest from Manchester United but it appears Sir Alex Ferguson could lose out to Andre Villas-Boas for the teen sensation.

It was widely reported that Inter Milan had sent officials to Argentina to thrash out a deal for the 17-year-old.

It appears as though these talks have failed and now the strongest interest is coming out of Stamford Bridge.

Villas-Boas is desperate to upgrade his ageing squad and Ocampos comes highly rated, with many other top European clubs showing an interest.

The promising forward has been likened with former Old Trafford favourite Cristiano Ronaldo due to his physique and strong running with the ball.

It was reported around Christmas that the recently relegated Argentinian giants were unwilling to sell their prized asset in the January transfer window.

River Plate have serious financial problems that contributed to, and are now compounded by, their relegation from Argentina’s top flight.

A serious bid from one of the world’s richest clubs could to be too much to turn down for the Argentina Under-17 international.
