Chelsea look set to miss out on Belgian midfielder Eden Hazard, despite reports in France that they are ready to make an offer for the player.
L'Equipe claims the Blues are one of two clubs willing to put forward a 'proposal' for the talented 21-year-old, with €30 million mooted as their offer in the paper.
However, Lille academy director Jean-Michel Vandamme told an Italian website that Les Dogues are keen to keep the playmaker at the club until the end of the season at the least, and will also be looking for €40 million for their client.
"We have received some very interesting propositions for Hazard, but the player will stay with us until at least the end of the season," Vandamme told calciomercato.com.
"He certainly won't leave until then. Then, if we can find someone willing to make an appropriate offer, we will look to reach an agreement. Interest from Inter Milan? There are clubs in all of the major European leagues that want him.
"His price? I think a player like Hazard is worth at least €40million (£33m)."
Hazard was influential in Lille claiming the Ligue 1 title last season, with his form leading to speculation over a move to one of Europe's elite in the summer. Arsenal were heavily linked, whilst Real Madrid and Manchester City were also cited as clubs with an interest at the time.
It appears Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is the latest to take a keen interest in the Stade Lille-Metropole starlet, who has again been in top form this term alongside Liverpool loanee and former Blues midfield Joe Cole.
With the financial backing of owner Roman Abramovich, Chelsea would have no problem meeting the high figure, should AVB decide that the player's value is €10 million more than their reported opening offer.
And the former Porto boss also has other alternatives on the agenda at Stamford Bridge, if recent press speculation is to be believed, with Milos Krasic and Marek Hamsik players of a similar ilk who have also been linked to Chelsea.
