Lyon chairman Jean-Michael Aulas says the club are prepared to part with defender Aly Cissokho.
The 24-year-old has attracted reported interest from Arsenal and Newcastle United, both of whom have suffered problems at left-back in recent months.
The Gunners have undergone an injury crisis at full-back this season, with Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna, Andre Santos and Carl Jenkinson all currently out injured.
And chariman Aulas said: "Possible winter departures? That doesn't mean we don't have any more means, but we want to keep the rules we set, which is to not increase deficit.
"The transfer of Aly Cissokho? I am rather in favour of it.
"We could hire a centre defender, young, not expansive and versatile, but none of our current centre defenders will be free agents next June, and maybe in February they will all be back.
"We could hire a defensive midfielder as Maxime Gonalons is deputising as centre defender. We could also not do anything."
Newcastle have been forced into playing Ryan Taylor at left-back of late, with Davide Santon having been ruled out through injured for the majority of the campaign.
