Arsenal set deadline over defender decision

Monaco are reportedly ready to offer Sebastien Squillaci an escape route from Arsenal, although want a decision made within a week.

The French defender has made only five appearances for the Gunners, with only one of those outings coming in the Barclays Premier League.

Squillaci's inability to force his way into a side riddled by defensive injuries perhaps offers a reflection of his current status at Arsenal, and he has been frequently linked with a move away from the club.

According to The Mirror, Monaco are keen on the 31-year-old and have requested that Arsenal make a decision on whether or not they will sell him within the next seven days.

Squillaci joined the Gunners from Sevilla in the summer of 2010 and has made 37 appearances for the north London club.

He is, however, well down Arsene Wenger's pecking order, and will be further so when the likes of Thomas Vermaelen, Bacary Sagna and Andre Santos return from injury.
