Italians bid for Liverpool & United striker target

Liverpool and Manchester United could be sparked in to a bidding war for Dutch hotshot Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

Talksport are reporting that Lazio are ready to move for the forward who has been tracked by both Sir Alex Ferguson and Kenny Dalglish.

Both the Old Trafford club and their counterparts were expected to wait until the summer to make moves for the 22-year-old, but the Serie A side’s involvement could spark them into action.

Lazio are pushing for a Champions League spot, but have stuttered a touch in the last few games and want to add to their strike force.

The report claims that the Italian are offering £13million for the former Utrecht star, but that is some way short of the £22million his club Sporting Lisbon are expecting.

Van Wolfswinkel was already highly rated while still playing in Holland but his seven goals in 11 games so far this season has caused a number of European clubs to sit up and take notice of him.

Kenny Dalglish is in the middle of a goals scoring nightmare at Anfiled right now, with his tea, finding goals hard to come by.

If any bid were to come from either Barclays Premier League team, Liverpool would most probably be the more likely due to their problems up front.

Ferguson has a number of strikers at United but the futures of Danny Welbeck and Dimitar Berbatov have been thrown into doubt after reports of a pay disagreement and playing time disagreement respectively.
