King cools title talk

Ledley King insists neither he, or his teammates are thinking about winning the Barclays Premier League title this season, as Tottenham prepare for Sunday's top of the table clash with leaders Manchester City.

The 31-year-old defender knows that victory this weekend will improve Spurs' chances of domestic success as they look to close the gap on Roberto Mancini's men, but he is adamant the players aren't thinking too far ahead.

Tottenham are currently five points adrift of this weekend's opponents, and having produced arguably the best football in the country this season, Harry Redknapp has not shied away from talking up his team's title credentials.

"We are in a great position at the moment and have probably surprised a few people," said King in a radio interview with talkSPORT. "At this stage of the season, to be talked about as still capable of winning the title is great for us.

"We are not getting too carried away at the moment, though. We are just getting our heads down and grinding out results.

"We look at the league table and we can see we are in amongst it. That is new to us and maybe people would expect us to fall away in the second half of the season."

With 46 points from just 21 games played Spurs' form this season has been thoroughly impressive, and despite a frustrating draw at home to Wolves last weekend, King says confidence is still high at White Hart Lane.

"As players, we believe in our ability and we believe we can keep getting results," he added.

"We have lost just one in the last 19 and that is great form. If we keep it up then we are in with a chance."
