United keep tabs on French teen defender

Manchester United are one of the clubs showing an interest in highly-rated French defender Kurt Zouma.

The 17-year-old centre-back, who has already forced his way into the Saint-Etienne first team, has emerged on the radar of a number of clubs across Europe after impressing in Ligue 1.

And The Daily Mail reports that both United and Manchester City have 'posted interest' in the Los Verts starlet, who has represented Les Bleus at U16 and U17 level thus far in his career.

Zouma penned his first professional contract at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard back in April, committing his future to the Ligue 1 outfit until 2014 with a three-and-a-half year deal.

Manager Christophe Galtier promoted the teenager to the club's senior setup in the summer, and after making a debut against Bordeaux in the 3-1 Coupe de la Ligue victory, Zouma has gone on to feature regularly.

The promotion has worked well for the club, as well as the player, with Galtier's side currently seventh in the division but just three points behind third-place Lille.

Saint-Etienne finished 10th last season.
