Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has suffered a small tear in his calf muscle and is likely to miss the FA Cup encounter with Queens Park Rangers, the club has confirmed.

The 31-year-old limped off after 36 minutes during the goalless draw against Norwich at the weekend, and Andre Villas-Boas suspected Lampard had sustained a torn calf.

This has since been confirmed by the Blues, although the extent of the damage is not as bad as initially feared, and Lampard will be able to join his teammates on their trip to Spain.

"A scan on the injury Frank Lampard suffered during the game at Norwich on Saturday shows he has a small tear in a calf muscle," read a statement on the official Chelsea website.

"The midfielder is unlikely to feature in the FA Cup fourth-round match against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday but is expected to join up with the rest of the squad in Mallorca where they are training this week."

Chelsea are spending five days in Mallorca in order to break their regular training routine and refresh the players after a busy early winter period.

Following their draw against the Canaries at Carrow Road on Saturday, the Blues are still fourth in the Barclays Premier League, some 13 points behind leaders Manchester City.

The do, however, enjoy a four-point cushion over fifth-placed Arsenal, who lost 2-1 to Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
