Nasri can feel goal relief

Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has revealed the relief scoring against Tottenham gave him.

The 24-year-old has found it difficult to hold down a regular starting place at the Etihad Stadium since his move north from Arsenal in the summer.

He has been struggling for form since the £24million pound transfer but he rewarded Roberto Mancini’s faith by scoring the opener on Sunday

“This goal is what I needed after everyone was talking. I needed this to show everyone I am 100 per cent with Man City,” he is quoted as saying in The Sun.

“I want to perform well and show everyone what I can do. David Silva gave me a brilliant ball and after one touch, I scored and I was happy.”

The win over Harry Redknapp’s Spurs was crucial in a title race that is now beginning to stretch out the gaps between the teams at the top.

Mancini’s side were victors after a last-minute penalty to make the score 3-2 and Nasri was sure that it was a game those watching would have enjoyed.

“It was the kind of game that everyone wants to play. It was a crazy game with two of the best teams in England,” he added.

“I think everyone loved with this game. It was a good result for us and we are happy with our performance.”

After an acrimonious move from the Gunners, Nasri was accused of going in search of a higher wage packet and this has led some City fans to question his commitment.

The France international was keen to contribute something so that the Citizens faithful could witness his desire to do well for the club.

Although City ran out eventual winners, Nasri was not so confident of all three points while the game was still tied and Jermain Defore was inches away from clinching it in injury time, before Mario Balotelli’s penalty.

“Seriously I had a doubt about it, I was scared. I am used to playing against Tottenham, they are a team who react really well,” he concluded.

“Last year with Arsenal we were winning 2-0 and they beat us 3-2, but I knew if we kept calm, played our football, we would score the third one because they leave too much space. That is what we did.

“We didn't go forward too quickly because then you open some space for them and they play quickly up front.

“We are happy with the result, that is the most important.”
