Szczesny: Gunners can bounce back

Wojciech Szczesny is in no doubt that Arsenal will respond instantly from their weekend defeat to Manchester United.

The 2-1 defeat was a third consecutive loss in the Barclays Premier League for the Gunners, with Swansea and Fulham also getting the better of Arsene Wenger's side in their previous outings.

Polish international Szczesny is in no doubt that the Arsenal squad is more than capable of recovering from the recent setbacks though, and believes the return of some key players from injury could also make a big difference in the final months of the season.

"I am confident that we will pick ourselves up, will win games and get our position in the Champions League. I am not worried, just disappointed obviously," he told the official Arsenal website.

"It should be a big confidence boost for us with the likes of Jack Wilshere and Bacary Sagna coming back and Kieran Gibbs as well.

"They are very important players for us and if we can have them back in the team as soon as possible then it will give us a lot of confidence. Hopefully they will help us get the results that this club deserves."

The recent defeats have dropped the north London outfit off the pace in a race for the final Champions League place, with the Gunners now five points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and ten behind rivals Spurs, who sit in third.

But, having become a regular at Europe's top table over the past decade-and-a-half, Szczesny knows the importance of returning to the competition once again next season and insists the players can handle the pressure and meet the fans' great expectations.

"I think this club should be in the Champions League year in year out so I understand the manager's point completely," the Polish international added.

"I think this club has enough experience to deal with that. Hopefully we can deal with all of the pressure that surrounds us at the moment and live up to the expectations because these fans and this club deserves better results than we have got in the last few weeks.

"We've been there before and we have reacted very well. I think we'll do the same thing again and make sure that this club goes in the right direction to finish the season where we should."
