Anzhi attempt to close Sneijder deal

Anzhi Makhachkala are reportedly preparing to test the resolve of Inter Milan by making a bid for Wesley Sneijder before the end of the Russian transfer window.

Clubs in the Russian Premier League can conduct business until February 24, and Anzhi are likely to complete some significant signings prior to the transfer deadline.

According to talkSPORT, the mega-rich Makhachkala outfit have identified Sneijder has their No.1 target for the winter, and could beat Manchester United to his signature.

The 27-year-old was consistently linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer, as Sir Alex Ferguson considered bringing a replacement for Paul Scholes to the club.

However, the Premier League champions never formalised their interest in Sneijder, and Scholes has since come out of retirement in order to help the United cause for the rest of the season.

Meanwhile, should Sneijder move to Anzhi, he will follow in the footsteps of Samuel Eto'o, who left the San Siro for Dinamo Stadium during the summer transfer window.
