Luka Modric will move to Manchester United ahead of Chelsea if he leaves Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season, according to reports over the weekend.
The Croatian international playmaker was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in the last summer transfer window, but Harry Redknapp held firm as Spurs rejected a mega offer believed to be in the region of £40 million.
And, having originally attempted to force a move to west London, Modric is now reported to have told friends that he’s glad he didn’t join Andre Villas-Boas on the King’s Road, given the current controversies engulfing Chelsea in their battle for a top four finish.
Speculation in The Sunday People goes on to suggest that Modric would be happy to consider the Red Devils as an alternative, should he get the opportunity to leave White Hart Lane.
Modric has been instrumental in Spurs’ challenge for the title this season, and his departure to a direct rival would be a major blow if Daniel Levy agreed to let the player make a move to Old Trafford.
