Arsenal are planning a £55million Bundesliga swoop for Germany internationals Lukas Podolski and Mario Gotze.

Arsene Wenger is experiencing his worst season in charge of the Gunners and a report in German newspaper Bild suggests he is ready to make a couple of high-profile additions to his squad this summer.

The Emirates Stadium club have just crashed out of the FA Cup and, after a 4-0 thrashing by AC Milan, look as though a Champions League exit will follow for them and this could spark Wenger into a summer spree.

Gotze has been the subject of much speculation for the past year and Arsenal’s Premier League rivals Manchester United have also been linked with a move for the Borussia Dortmund playmaker.

Podolski has been linked with a move to Arsenal a number of times and has hinted his openness for a move to north London away from current side Cologne.

If either were to join the Gunners, he would line up next to compatriot and international team-mate Per Merteseacker.
