Arsenal and Chelsea are monitoring the situation of Liverpool target Inigo Martinez, it has been claimed.

The Real Sociedad defender has been attracting plenty of interest after a number of composed displays in La Liga this season, and is future seemingly lies away from Anoeta.

Liverpool appeared to frontrunners for Martinez after it was reported that Kenny Dalglish had sent scouts to run the rule over the 20-year-old on numerous occasions this term.

However, it would appear that the Reds may face competition for Martinez from Arsenal and Chelsea, both of whom have been credited with interest in his signature.

According to The Mirror, both Arsenal and Chelsea have been watching Martinez, who has also been attracting interest from European champions Barcelona.

Martinez has made 20 appearances in La Liga this term, and has impressed all and sundry with his performances at the heart of the Sociedad defence.

However, the discipline of the Spain under-21 centre-back has been called into question, with Martinez having received eight yellow cards and two reds in the league.
