Manchester United are close to tying Nani to a lucrative new contract, according to The Times.

The 25-year-old Portuguese international has just over two years remaining on his existing deal, but will be offered improved terms from his current £80,000-a-week wages in a bid to commit his long-term future.

Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson is continuing to juggle the club's title tilt this year with the long-term planning he has so successfully achieved at Old Trafford during his tenure.

Juventus and AC Milan have been linked with moves for Nani but the winger is understood to be happy in England, helping Manchester United in their hunt for a 20th domestic title.

After Cristiano Ronaldo's acrimonious departure to Real Madrid back in 2009, Nani's importance has continued to grow, and he is now regarded as an integral part of Ferguson's squad.

His form may have dipped since returning from a four week injury lay-off last month, but the forward has been one of the club's most consistent performers over the past two years.

An announcement to confirm Nani's new deal is expected from Manchester United before the end of the season.
