Chelsea and Barcelona have both taken a keen interest in Standard Liège starlet Michy Batshuayi, according to reports.

The 18-year-old has made a big impression in Belgium during his first senior season, scoring three Pro League goals in just 11 appearances for the Stade Maurice Dufrasne outfit.

His progress has alerted two of Euorpe’s top clubs, with The Sun claiming both the Blues and Barca are now tracking the youngster’s progress under Jose Riga.

Under former manager Andre Villas-Boas, Chelsea invested heavily in young players from Belgium, bringing Romelu Lukaku, Thiabut Courtois and Kevin de Bruyne to Stamford Bridge during his short spell in the capital.

How AVB’s exit impacts Chelsea’s interest in Batshuayi is up for debate, although Les Rouches are also unlikely to want to part with the Congolese-born player as he rises through the ranks.

Roberto Di Matteo has taken charge of the first team on a caretaker manager basis on the King’s Road, although it’s unlikely that he’ll be involved in transfer activities as a replacement is expected to be named by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich in the summer.

As for Barcelona, they have the lure of being European and La Liga champions for a young player, although the future of manager Pep Guardiola is also up for debate in Catalonia.
