Liverpool target Kagawa ready to sign

Japanese forward Shinji Kagawa is ready to reject the advances of Liverpool and sign a new contract with Borussia Dortmund.

The 22-year-old has scored eight goals this season as Dortmund pursue a second successive Bundesliga title, with Jurgen Klopp's side currently seven points clear at the summit of the table.

Naturally, Dortmund are keen to retain the services of Kagawa, particularly as his current contract edges closer to expiration.

According to talkSPORT, Kagawa is on the verge of putting pen to paper on a new deal with his current employers, despite interest in his signature from Liverpool.

"We are now negotiating over the renewal of my contract," Kagawa told German newspaper RevierSport.

"It's what interests me right now although I know that foreign clubs have asked about me. But I don't think it is the right time for me to leave this club."

The acquisition of goalscoring reinforcements is likely to be high on the agenda for Kenny Dalglish come the summer, but the Liverpool boss will seemingly miss out on Kagawa.

Liverpool have been profligate in front of goal this season, with top Premier League scorers Craig Bellamy and Luis Suarez boasting only six strikes apiece.
