Young confident of progression

Ashely Young says Manchester United are confident they can get the result they need against Athletic Bilbao on Thursday to ensure they progress into the last eight of the Europa League.

Bilbao stunned the Premier League champions last week - deservedly winning 3-2 at Old Trafford in a display full of verve and ambition.

Travelling back to the Estadio San Mamés with three away goals would have been something Marcelo Bielsa could have only dreamed about, but that is the reality and his side are favourites to make it through to the next round.

However, if there is any side capable of overturning such a deficit, it is Manchester United, who will count on a wealth of experience in European competition going into the second leg of the tie.

United go into the encounter having been given an extra fillip by regaining their place at the top of the Premier League table with victory over West Brom on Sunday.

And Young hopes the club's form domestically can translate to the Europa League, and book United a place in the next round.

"It is unusual that we find ourselves in this position but there is a great team spirit here and everyone is full of confidence," the winger told the official Manchester United website.

"Our form in general makes us believe we can score wherever we play.

"Our attacking play has been fantastic of late and we believe we can score the two goals we need."
