Manchester United look set to launch a bid for Inter Milan goalkepeer Julio Cesar in the summer, according to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The paper claims that Cesar will leave the San Siro and head for pastures new, with Manchester United keen on adding their experience to their inexperienced-looking goalkeeper line up at Old Trafford.

Ferguson is said to be a keen admirer of Cesar, who despite his age is still rated as one of the finest ‘keepers in Europe and is reportedly ready to launch a bid to sign the Brazilian at the end of the season

After a shaky start to his Manchester United career, David De Gea appears to have finally found his feet after his £17 million summer switch and is now the automatic first choice at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard has put in a series of impressive displays recently, in particular in both games against Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League, while also contributing heavily to wins over Norwich and Tottenham in the Premier League recently that have helped move the Red Devils to the top of the table.

However with Anders Lindegaard as back up, United appear somewhat vulnerable between the posts in terms of big game experience, and Ferguson may be keen to bolster his options having previously relied on veteran goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar.

Cesar remains Inter’s first choice shot-stopper this season in Milan amidst a disastrous Serie A campaign for the Italian giants which has seen them exit the Champions League at the last 16 stage and stumble to their worst start to the league in 27 years.

Cesar is contracted with Inter 2014 and would command a fee, although given his age it is unlikely to break the bank.
