Chelsea face the prospect of missing out on the signing of Douglas Baggio – dubbed the ‘new Ronaldo’ - after Real Madrid entered the race for his signature.

The 17-year-old has attracted interest from all over Europe and has been tipped as one of the stars for the future, with Chelsea reportedly keen to snap him up.

However according to talkSPORT, Real Madrid are also interested in securing his services having kept a close eye on his performances with Flamengo at the Under-17 Copa Rio.

The talented forward bagged ten goals and the top scorer award in the competition to alert the likes of Chelsea, AC Milan and Napoli, with both Italian clubs still considering making a move for the youngster at the end of the season.

However talkSPORT report that Real Madrid are in the driving seat to land Baggio, and could launch a bid in the summer to secure his services.

Previous reports have suggested however that he will not leave his native Brazil until he turns 18 in February 2013 before he attempts to make his name with a European club.

La Gazzetta dello Sport quoted the four clubs including Chelsea and Real Madrid as Baggio’s potential suitors earlier this month, citing his performances for Flamengo’s youth team as enough to persuade the Blues and their rivals to pursue his signature sooner rather than later.
