Manchester City v Chelsea
Etihad Stadium; Premier League; Wednesday March 21; KO 1945
Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini could recall recently returned striker Carlos Tevez to the squad for the first time since they fell out over the Argentinean allegedly refusing to come on against Bayern Munich.
Mancini’s problems in defence continue, however, as Joleon Lescott remains sidelined with a groin injury and captain Vincent Kompany is a doubt due to a calf strain.
Better news is that full-back Pablo Zabaleta looks like recovering from a hamstring complaint and Gareth Barry is fit again after recovering from back problems.
Chelsea only have two concerns with injuries, but one of them is John Terry, who is still recovering from knee surgery and has only recently played two game sin four days. Spanish midfielder Oriol Romeu is also out.
Di Matteo willing to change for Torres
Chelsea’s caretaker manager Roberto di Matteo has been talking up his striking options, claiming he would consider changing tactics to accommodate them.
The former Stamford Bridge favourite, who was given the post temporarily after Andre Villas-Boas was dismissed, believes the Blues can cope with a change in formation to get Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba playing together.
The question was raised after Torres’ two-goal man-of-the-match performance against Leicester City on Saturday in their FA Cup quarter final, and Drogba’s outstanding showing in the defeat of Napoli last week.
“It's great for this football club, isn't it?” he said when questioned over the selection dilemma.
“To have that firepower in the team, it's fantastic. And we will try to do our best to try to exploit the good form of both.
“It's going to be tough on anybody I leave out. We have a fantastic squad and it hurts to leave players out of that calibre. It's really difficult.”
The first goal was the Spaniard’s first since October in a Champions League victory over Belgian side Genk.
However, Drogba is expected to get the call to lead the Chelsea line as they attempt to become the first side to avoid defeat at the Etihad Stadium in the league this season when they travel to Manchester City this evening.
