Santos: Van Persie up with Ronaldo

Arsenal full-back Andre Santos says Robin van Persie ranks alongside the finest players he has ever played with, including Brazilian goalscoring legend Ronaldo.

Van Persie has been in quite sensational form for the Gunners over the past 15 months or so, and has scored 26 times in the Premier League this season alone.

The Dutch striker will surely be rewarded for his exploits when the individual honours are handed out at the end of the season, but perhaps no accolade will please Van Persie more than to be mentioned in the same bracket as Ronaldo.

Santos played with the former Inter Milan star during his time with Corinthians, yet believes Van Persie is near the summit of strikers he has been teammates with during his career.

"He's one of the best strikers I've played with, though I also played with Ronaldo at Corinthians," Santos told The People.

Van Persie's future with Arsenal, however, still remains uncertain with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.

The 28-year-old has yet to give any clear indication that he will further his stay at the Emirates Stadium, and any talks over a new deal are on hold until the end of the season.

Santos, though, is desperate to see Van Persie stay with the club, having formed a personal bond with the Holland international during his short spell in north London.

He added: "I really hope Van Persie stays. He's a great player and one of my best friends at the club. He has the peg next to me in the dressing room."
