Inter Milan have stepped up their interest in Marseille midfielder and reported Arsenal target Stephane Mbia, reports talkSPORT.

The 25-year-old Cameroon international has scored only once for the Ligue 1 outfit this season from his deep-lying midfield role, but after turning in a number of impressive performances has attracted the attention of numerous clubs across Europe.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is looking to strengthen his Emirates Stadium squad this summer, and is believed to be considering an approach for Mbia.

However, according to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Arsenal will now face competition from Serie A giants Inter, who have watched the African in action in each of Marseille's last two outings.

The French side are on the verge of exiting the Champions League after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in their quarter-final first leg clash last week, and Mbia could add to manager Didier Deschamps' woes by pressing for a summer switch.
