Team News

John Terry is a major doubt for the hosts after cracking his ribs in the Champions League win over Benfica.

Ashley Cole is also expected to miss out, whilst Frank Lampard is fighting a thigh problem to be fit. Roberto Di Matteo will have to decide if Fernando Torres or Didier Drogba leads the line.

For Wigan, Mohamed Diame is fit to return after missing the last two matches, although striker Hugo Rodallega will miss out because of a knee problem.

Gomez: We can get a result at Chelsea

Jordi Gomez believes Wigan can pick up points against the top teams as they embark on a daunting run of fixtures - starting with Saturday’s trip to Chelsea.

Robetro Martinez’s side are currently 19th in the Premier League and travel to Stamford Bridge this weekend before facing Manchester United and then Arsenal.

The Latics beat Stoke 2-0 at the DW Stadium last time out meaning only goal difference is keeping them in the bottom three.

And despite their difficult run of games, midfielder Gomez is confident Wigan can pick up some positive results.

"We have three difficult games coming up now but that's always going to be the case at this stage of the season," he told the Wigan Evening Post.

"Whether you are playing the teams at the top or the teams at the bottom, no-one is going to give you anything and you must work hard for every point.

"We have proved in the past that we can take on and beat the big teams and we must draw on that experience again over the coming weeks."

Gomez recently put pen to paper on a new two-year contract at the DW and admits he is delighted to have agreed a new deal.

The Spaniard has made 22 Premier League appearances this season, scoring four goals.

"I have played more football this year than last year, so I am happy in that respect and it was an easy decision to sign a new contract,” he said.

"Hopefully both of the years will be spent in the Premier League and I am confident that will be the case."
