Wenger mulling over Dempsey move

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is seriously considering a summer bid to bring Fulham hot-shot Clint Dempsey to Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners chief has been impressed with the American’s form this season, in which he has scored 22 goals, and wants to bring him in to compliment his own goals sensation Robin van Persie, according to The Telegraph.

The Arsenal captain has been a revelation this season, scoring 33 goals in all competitions, but the rest of the side have failed to lighten some of the scoring burden on the Dutchman until recent weeks.

The report claims that Wenger is intending to overhaul the Gunners’ attack this summer and any move for Dempsey would depend on whether the north Londoners can offload a number of fringe players.

They have reportedly already begun this process by agreeing an £11million deal with Cologne for Germany striker Lukas Podolski.

The report also claims that Wenger considered a bid for the 29-year-old attacker last summer after being impressed with his versatility.

The fact that Dempsey will only have a year left on his contract come the end of the season may mean the Arsenal boss is tempted into a bid.
