Fowler hails 'outstanding' Suarez

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has hailed the impact of Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez at Anfield since his arrival at the club last January.

Known as ‘God’ during his eight years at Anfield, Fowler returned for a second spell on Merseyside in 2006/07, and also played for Leeds, Manchester City, Cardiff City and Blackburn Rovers before moving abroad during an 18-year professional career.

Despite not scoring as many goals as some expected this term, the 37-year-old believes Suarez can be more than happy with his first full campaign at the club, despite a lengthy ban for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.

"Luis has been fantastic since he joined the club - his all-round game has been outstanding,” Fowler told the official Liverpool website.

"He's been a breath of fresh air and caused defences all sorts of problems. He can be very satisfied with how he's played overall this season."

Signed from Ajax in January 2011, the 25-year-old made an immediate impression on the Kop faithful, and was again their hero at Wembley in last weekend’s FA Cup semi-final against Everton, notching the equaliser before Andy Carroll scored a later winner against the Toffees.

It’s the all-action style of Suarez which supporters love most, and Fowler admits he would have loved to play alongside such a hard-working teammate when he was on-song for the Reds.

"For me as a goalscoring player, you always want players around you who can create,” he added.

"In the games I've seen this season, Luis has created a lot of chances. As a player, I would thrive on playing with someone like him. For goalscorers, those type of players are great to play with."

It’s Carroll who currently enjoys the role alongside Suarez, and after struggling to settle into life at Liverpool following a £35 million move from Newcastle United last January, he’s started to come to the fore.

The England international has shown some of his best form for the club in recent weeks, and Fowler is convinced that the pair can form a fearsome partnership for Liverpool over the coming years.

"I think they've been tremendous in the last few games and they've worked well together. They have looked a real threat,” concluded Fowler.

"They were brilliant in the semi-final against Everton, both of them scored and I don't think you could have scripted that any better.

"It was a fantastic game for the two of them. They've scored a few goals together as a partnership recently and let's hope as supporters they can continue to go on and on."
