Pearce: Clock ticking for England

Interim England boss Stuart Pearce has claimed players "need to know" the Euro 2012 squad before the end of the season.

It was anticipated the permanent manager would have been appointed by now but the four-man Club England board have not even made an approach, let alone got an agreement in place. So, when Pearce revealed on Tuesday that a squad would be announced on May 10, three days before the final Premier League games are played, he seemed to catch his employers off guard.

"I have no idea whether I will be selecting it but I fully expect, whether it is me or the next man, he will be selecting the squad around that time," said Pearce. "The season ends on May 13 and the players need to know."
