Manchester United and Manchester City will have to battle interest from Roma if they are to land transfer target Mats Hummels this summer.

A report from talkSPORT has claimed Sir Alex Ferguson and Roberto Mancini are both interested in bringing the central defender to Old Trafford and the Etihad Stadium respectively.

However, the Serie A side are reportedly considering entering the race for the Germany international and are willing to take on the Citizens and Red Devils to land him.

Hummels has been impressive once again this season as Borussia Dortmund successfully retained their Bundesliga title over Champions League finalists Bayern Munich.

However, he is still only 23-years-old and has a contract that does not expire until the summer of 2014, which would make him an expensive signing.

The report claims that United and City would have to part with around £20million if the wanted to land the highly-rated defender.
