Newcastle v Manchester City; Sports Direct Arena; Premier League; Sunday 6 May 2012, 13:30 KO
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is set to recall Cheick Tiote despite the midfielder having to be stretchered off in Wednesday night's clash against Chelsea, with a head injury that required stitches.
Danny Simpson also missed the midweek 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge, and will face a late fitness test.
Meanwhile, Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart is a doubt for the game at St James' Park, after picking up a foot injury in last Monday's Manchester derby.
The England international is undergoing extensive treatment in a race to be passed fit.
Tiote eager for City involvement
Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote was carried off on a stretcher at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, following a clash with Chelsea's John Obi Mikel.
But, the Magpies ace has declared himself fit to face Manchester City at St James' Park this weekend, despite suffering a nine-inch cut to his head.
"I can't remember any of it, but the most important thing is I feel great. It's just a cut on the side," the 25-year-old told his club's official website.
"I spoke to John Obi Mikel afterwards and it's fine. It was purely an accident from him. If you play in midfield you have to let people hurt you and be ready for it. It's fine for me though, I will be OK for Sunday."
The African ace has been an integral part of Alan Pardew's squad this season, and after collecting another hard earned three points after their 2-0 win over the Blues in midweek, are in with a genuine chance of a top four finish.
Victory against Roberto Mancini's men could not only have a huge say in this year's Premier League title race, but also propel Newcastle into the Champions League qualification places. And, with so much at stake, Tiote is eager to be involved.
"We we'll be doing everything to win it," he continued. "It was a great win [against Chelsea], and we have so much confidence.
"Chelsea are a huge club, and in the Champions League final. I think we have big confidence from this."
