Arsenal are reportedly ready to act ahead of Liverpool and make a move to bring free-scoring attacking midfielder Clint Dempsey to Emirates Stadium this summer.

A report in The Sun claims that Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is keen to sign the USA international, who has also interested the Anfield club and has been as one of the possible few new faces being brought in by Reds’ manager Kenny Dalglish.

Dempsey has scored 23 goals this season playing as an auxiliary striker for Fulham, but the report claims Wenger prefers him in his more familiar role as an attacking midfielder.

Meanwhile, Liverpool chairman Tom Werner hinted at interest out of Merseyside with comments he made last week where he claimed any club would be proud to sign the 29-year-old.

Dalglish’s side have had an abysmal league campaign this season and many are expecting a number of changes at the club once the transfer window reopens.

Wenger, however, is getting his business done early by already signing Germany international Lukas Podolski and a deal is almost done for Rennes star Yann M’Vila.

Dempsey only has a year left on current contract and has not agreed to the three-year extension offered by the Cottagers.
