Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has held talks with transfer target Shinji Kagawa, the player has revealed.

The Borussia Dortmund star looks set for a switch to Old Trafford after rejecting a new deal with the Bundesliga champions and his latest comments confirmed reports that he was considering a move to the Red Devils.

“It was good that I was able to meet him in person and talk,” he is quoted as saying by talkSPORT when questioned if he had met Ferguson.

“I want to think hard before making my decision. I want to choose a team where I can take on challenges.”

The 23-year-old is preparing for Japan’s international friendly with Azerbaijan next week and is expected to be in the squad for the London 2012 Olympics later this summer.

Kagawa has a year left on his current deal with Dortmund, but the club confirmed he will not be signing an extension and will likely cash in this summer to avoid losing him for free next season.

It has been a successful season for the creative midfielder in Germany, where he played an integral role in his side retaining their title and scored the opener in the 5-2 German Cup final demolition of Bayern Munich.
