The FA have announced Roy Hodgson's Euro 2012 England squad, with defenders Rio Ferdinand and Micah Richards the surprise omissions.

Young players including Phil Jones and Danny Welbeck have been called up, while former England captain John Terry retains his place in the squad.

Alex Oxlade-Chamerlain is a surprise inclusion, as is Stewart Downing, who did not score or provide an assist for Liverpool all season.

Andy Carroll has also earned a place as one of four strikers, with Wayne Rooney suspended for the first two group games of the tournament.


In today's transfer news, Roberto Di Matteo has dismissed reports claiming that Chelsea are ready to offer Fernando Torres plus £15m for Radamel Falcao. (Goal)

Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric says he will make a decision about his future after Euro 2012 - hinting he could leave White Hart Lane. (The Daily Telegraph)

And finally, Shinja Kagawa has admitted he has met with Sir Alex Ferguson amid speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford this summer. (Yahoo! Eurosport UK)
