Robin van Persie has reportedly told Arsenal that he his not ready to sign a new deal, despite the club's best efforts to retain the services of their captain.

The 28-year-old is out of contract at the end of next season but, it would appear, the Gunners may fail in their attempts to keep Van Persie at the Emirates Stadium beyond the terms of his current deal.

According to The Mirror, Arsenal offered Van Persie a contract worth £130,000-a-week, but he snubbed this proposal in a meeting with Arsene Wenger on Wednesday.

This apparent refusal from the Holland international has reportedly alerted both Juventus and Manchester City to his potential availability this summer, although Arsenal are more likely to force Van Persie to see out his contract.

Van Persie's exit would come as a significant blow for Arsenal, who desperately need his influence both on and off the field, after he scored 30 goals last season in the Premier League.

The Gunners had hoped that keeping Van Persie would represent a signal of intent and, thus, attract other high profile players to the Emirates Stadium during the transfer window.
